Proposals now available for INTERSECTIONS 2013.The Atlas Performing Arts Center announces its fourth annual all-arts festival celebrating the artistic and cultural connections of our community and world. Through innovative intersections of theater, dance, music, film & video, opera, visual art and spoken word, we will bring together diverse artists and audiences from DC and beyond to break boundaries, deepen dialogue, and create connections in our intimate performance spaces, festive lobby and café.
What are we looking for?Productions or projects that: • Give new and distinctive voice to the kaleidoscope of perspectives of the “new America” – a place of intersecting cultures, races, ages and art forms. Performances of works previously produced are eligible.
The festival staff and programming committee will select the festival offerings based on:• The artistic excellence of the company’s past work.
• The artistic merit and/or potential of the proposed project. • The proposed project’s resonance with the “new America” theme. • The proposed project’s innovative and/or collaborative nature. • The capacity of the artist/company to collaborate with the festival to develop audiences and contribute to the festival community. How does this work?*The Atlas covers the cost of your performance space rental, standard venue inventory, one 4-hour tech rehearsal, a theatre manager, two crew, house management, box office and Atlas marketing.
*Performers/companies cover all “in the door” expenses (all performer’s fees & production costs.) *You commit to partner with the Atlas to market directly to your audiences.
*You will receive the proceeds of the box office, less a negotiated percentage for the Atlas. *Modest stipends are available for certain performances that are free.
*Performances/events may be one-offs or multiple performances throughout the festival. Questions?Contact Festival Artistic Director, Mary Hall Surface at intersectionsdc@atlasarts.org.
